A Dawsonville man is in custody following a five hour standoff with deputies overnight Sunday.
Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle said 34-year-old Jeffery Friis Knudsen reportedly barricaded himself in a home on Maple Hill Drive late Sunday night.
"[He] and his girlfriend had broken up and he was threatening suicide," Carlisle said. "She had called us and said he did have a shot gun at the house."
Officers arrived shortly before midnight and were not immediately able to make contact with Knudsen.
They eventually forced entry into the home and took him into custody without incident, Carlisle said.
"The last officer left the scene at 5:20 a.m.," he said.
No one else was at the home at the time of the incident.
Knudsen remains in sheriff's custody with charges pending, according to Carlisle.
