One-day race to the beach is on

A four-day, three-night stay at a beach condo is up for grabs at the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber will celebrate the end of its summer membership drive by having a one-day race to see which team can bring in the most new or returning members.

"We've got about six teams so far and we're still taking them," said chamber President Linda Williams. "We've done membership drives in the past, but this is the first time we've done this format."

In past years, the chamber has formatted its membership drives to resemble a horse race and a NASCAR race, according to Williams.

"This format is kind of based on that television show ‘The Amazing Race,'" Williams said. "In the past, we've had as many as 50 new members, so we are hoping for a great turnout and a great response."

The contest will take place Aug. 30 and active chamber members are invited to participate in recruiting new business members and inviting inactive business members to rejoin.

The grand prize will be a four-day, three-night stay in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. The four bedroom, four bath condo is a two minute walk to the beach and will easily accommodate 10 to 12 people.

"[The condo] is compliments of First Citizen's Bank of Georgia and we would like to offer our thanks to Mike Underwood for arranging that," Williams said.

If you are an active member or the employee of an active member and would like to participate as an individual or on a team, call the chamber office at (706) 265-6278 for more details.

Also, any new member who brings in a new business member before Aug. 31 will receive recognition in the Chamber Chronicle, two complimentary lunches at the next membership luncheon and a chance at a $100 gift card to North Georgia Premium Outlets.
