Beginning with today’s issue, The Dawson Community News serves as Dawson County’s official legal organ.

The legal organ of the county is the print publication in which public notice advertising required by law must be published, such as foreclosures, public bids, grand jury presentments and repeat DUI offenders.

The Dawson Community News has previously served as the legal organ of Dawson County, most recently in 2003.

The newspaper has served as the official legal organ for the city of Dawsonville since 2004.

The announcement was made Sept. 16 in a letter sent out by Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle, Dawson County Probate Judge Jennifer Burt and Dawson County Clerk of Superior Court Becky McCord, the three constitutional officers who oversee designation of the legal organ.

Stephanie Griffin, editor of the Dawson Community News, said the newspaper’s staff was grateful for the opportunity to “serve the community in this extremely important capacity.”

“I, as well as the staff at Dawson Community News, will take great pride in fulfilling this very important duty for Dawson County,” Griffin said.

“The newspaper takes pride in providing the community with news that is accurate, dependable and relevant to the citizens of Dawson County. We feel that being selected as the official legal organ of the county pays tribute to the dedication and hard work put in by our staff.”
