Anyone looking to make improvements to their current home or build a new one will find a variety of innovative ideas and demonstrations this weekend at the inaugural North Georgia Home Expo.

The expo will feature new product information, live demonstrations and do-it-yourself projects under one roof when landscaping, homebuilding, remodeling and realty businesses will be at the Lakeview Center on Dawson Forest Road Saturday and Sunday.

“There’s never been an event like this in the area,” said Rory Cunningham, president of the Dawson Lumpkin Homebuilders Association, which organized the expo.

Cunningham said more than 30 vendors have already signed up.

“And they’re all from this area — Dawson, Forsyth and Lumpkin counties.

Keeping with the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce’s effort to promote local shopping, we wanted to show what services are available locally,” he said.

Lori Lewis, of the builder’s association, said the entire community could benefit from the event.

“It’s basically for anyone,” Lewis said. “The whole community can enjoy it. It’s got a little bit of everything.”

Lewis said holding the expo in Dawson County came in response to “lots of requests from local people who wanted us to do something like this.”

According to Lewis, activities include live demonstrations, interactive features, innovative products, networking opportunities, door prizes, drawings, food and drinks.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 27, and noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 28.

Admission is $3 for adults. Children younger than 12 get in free.
