For the second consecutive summer, Amanda Head returns to the Dawson Community News as part of the Georgia Press Association's college internship program.

A junior at the University of North Georgia majoring in communication, Head plans to pursue a career in the journalism field.

"Last year, my eyes were opened to a community that I didn't even realize was here, and I was able to see that Dawsonville is not just a town you pass through, but a community with wonderful people and so much to offer," Head said. "I met a lot of people last summer, and I'm glad to be back to work here in Dawsonville again."

She attends UNG's Gainesville campus, where she is the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Vanguard.

According to Head, the experience she's gained while interning at DCN has been an asset to her coursework and cemented her desire to seek a career in journalism upon graduation.

Editor Stephanie Woody welcomed Head back to the newsroom on Monday.

"We are glad to have Amanda back for the second year as our intern. She is a wonderful asset to our staff," Woody said.
