Dust off those dancing shoes and get ready for an evening of food and fun as the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce holds its annual gala and awards ceremony Friday night.

With a "Postcards from Dawson County" theme, the event will be held for the first time at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in downtown Dawsonville.

Chamber President Christie Haynes said the idea is to roll out the red carpet and spotlight all that makes the community unique.

"Racing and moonshine are part of Dawson County and Dawsonville's heritage," she said.

Dawsonville Mayor James Grogan, who also sits on the hall of fame's board, said he's excited about the new setting.

"We are happy to have them [the chamber] here, and we are so glad that the chamber and the city are working together to bring new business into downtown," he said. "We hope the event is a big success and everyone gets their tickets early."

Tickets, which are $65 per person or $500 per table of eight, are still available and can be purchased from the chamber.

In addition to dinner by Perfect Gatherings Catering and dancing, the event also gives the chamber an opportunity to pay tribute to the people and businesses that made a difference in the community over the past year.

The chamber is currently seeking sponsors for postcards of various local scenes. Sponsorships are $500.
