Summer flick is at War Hill

Residents of Dawson County can enjoy the warm weather and catch a flick at the same time next week during the season’s first outdoor movie.

Presented by Northside Hospital-Forsyth, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” begins at dusk June 4 at War Hill Park.

There will also be children’s activities and event vendors at 6 p.m.

Buffie Hamil, program coordinator, said the gathering is “a great opportunity for families and friends to come together and enjoy an evening without breaking the bank.”

The free event is usually held at Rock Creek Park, but Hamil said the “one-time change of venue will allow the public to see recent renovations and beautifications to War Hill Park.”

With shores along Lake Lanier, the park is located at the end of War Hill Park Road. It reopened for the season April 1 after a year and a half of remodeling to upgrade facilities.

Movie night will return to Rock Creek Park Aug. 20.

Since 2006, Dawson County Parks and Recreation has played host to a series of outdoor movies during summer months.

Hamil said attending is a good use of one’s time.

“The movies have always been highly attended and offer families a few hours of fun and entertainment at a minimal cost,” she said.

Hamil added that moviegoers are welcome to bring picnic dinners or purchase concessions from vendors.

While the event is free, snacks and items at vendor booths are not.
