Georgia Mountains Master Gardeners continued their efforts at the Dawson County Extension during the month of September.

With the heat of summer behind, Master Gardeners went to work providing basic fall landscape maintenance by cleaning out dead material and weeds and thinning overcrowded areas.

Next, a number of plants and shrubs were divided and transplanted to new locations, and low-maintenance roses were purchased and planted to provide summer color for next year.

All plants in the beds were chosen specifically to require no extra water. All the beds were then mulched for protection over winter and for water conservation.

A stepping stone path to the flagpole was created, and each stone was individually designed with leaf patterns by the Master Gardeners.

The fall cleanup has caused many employees and visitors to the local extension office to compliment and encourage the hard-working volunteers from the Georgia Mountain Master Gardeners.
