Over the past few weeks, members of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church have been collecting a variety of necessities as part of a back-to-school donation drive, partnering with local nonprofit organization K.A.R.E for Kids.

The church focused on many of the essential toiletry items that local children may need on a daily basis, such as toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo.

Also included in the collection were a variety of garments, including T-shirts, socks and underwear.

“This year’s collection has been a huge success,” K.A.R.E director Tiffany Buchan said. “K.A.R.E will work with other organizations in the community to make sure all children in Dawson County Schools' needs are met.”

Buchan said that the church has a long history of supporting children in the community through K.A.R.E, including the organization’s annual Christmas efforts.

She also mentioned that they will be starting a summer drive in July called K.A.R.E STARS, which will focus on socks, shoes and underwear.

Those donations can be dropped off at the I Love NY Pizza restaurant on 29 Main Street, which is the shopping center that includes the Food Lion.

For any questions about this drive, K.A.R.E can be reached at 706-216-5273.
