During the 30th annual Buck Jones Toy Run on Sunday, Nov. 21, K.A.R.E. for Kids collected a truckload full of toys and 170 gift cards to provide a Christmas for North Georgia families in need.
The ride begins at the Cumming Fairgrounds, stops in Dawsonville at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, then finishes up in Lumpkin County. Each participant brings three toys, one for each county. The toys are then given to local agencies and distributed to families who need help with Christmas.
K.A.R.E. for Kids president Rhonda Evans said 279 motorcycles and 58 jeeps stopped in Dawsonville to drop their gifts off and be fed a lunch of soup, beans, cornbread and sliders, provided by Crave.
"Over half the bikes had two riders, so we fed over 500 people," Evans said.
A new element added to the event this year was a flag raising ceremony by newly formed BSA Troop 78.
