On the morning of August 28, a regional food drive will benefit food banks in Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties.

The food drive will begin at 10 a.m. at the Lumpkin County Park and Rec. Ball Field No. 5 parking lot on Mechanicsville Road in Dahlonega. Donations needed are canned and non-perishable boxed foods.

All items and money raised during the event will be divided equally between the North Georgia food banks that will participate.

In addition to the food drive, the event will also include an ice bucket challenge fundraiser beginning at 11 a.m. Event attendees will have a chance to bid on dumping a bucket of ice water on the heads of local leaders such as the sheriff, county commission chairman, mayor and local area press members. DCN editor, Jacob Smith, will be one of those available to dump ice water on, so make sure to come out to the event to bid on your chance to soak him.
