Gary and Kim Porter of Dawsonville announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lindsay Porter, to Chris Holmes. He is the son of Barry Holmes of Sharpsburg and Devin Holmes of Alpharetta.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Robert and the late Patsy Reece and Gene and Vicki Porter, all of Dawsonville.

She is a 2009 graduate of Dawson County High School. She is expected to graduate in May from the University of Georgia with a bachelors of science degree in adapted curriculum special education.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mary Foley and the late John Holmes of Blue Bell, Pa., and the late Joseph and Mildred Volpe of Sarasota, Fla.

He is a 2008 graduate of Lassiter High School in Marietta. He is a 2012 graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelors of science and bachelors of art in cognitive science and religion.

He is a 2014 graduate of Virginia Tech with a master's degree in developmental psychology. He is expected to graduate in 2017 with a doctorate's degree in developmental psychology.

He is currently employed as a teaching assistant with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.

The couple is planning a June wedding at The Wheeler House in Ball Ground.
