This weekend, the Dawson County Humane Society will partner with Best Friends Animal Society for their National Adoption Weekend to help combat the growing shelter crisis in America.
According to a press release by the organization, the Dawson County Humane Society No-Kill Shelter will host four adoption venues this weekend to allow the public to meet and potentially adopt some of the shelter’s animals.
“Due to recent challenges such as staffing shortages, limited shelter hours, increasing volunteer needs and reduced adoption events, the time is now to help save lives by adopting a pet,” the release said.
Adoption sites for this weekend will be the Dawson County Petco, Petsmart, the Humane Society Resale Shop at 54 Lumpkin Campground Road South and at the shelter, 633 Martin Road. Hours and specific locations for each venue will be posted on the Shelter and Resale Shop’s website and Facebook page, and all animals available for adoption can be seen on the website at dawsoncountyhumanesociety.org.
The shelter is offering half price adoption fees for the weekend. All animals adopted through the shelter are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Those who are not in a position to help by adopting an animal but want to help in other ways can go to the shelter’s website to view a list of shelter needs and sponsorship information.
