With the Georgia Senate runoff election less than a day away, Dawson County election officials say the county wrapped it’s three-week early voting period with over 10,000 votes cast and a high voter turnout of 48 percent.
Glenda Ferguson, director of the Dawson County Board of Elections and Voter Registration, said that from Dec. 14 to Dec. 31, 10,444 people cast their votes in Dawson County at in-person polling locations or via absentee ballots. According to Ferguson, this was a higher voter turnout than expected for early voting and accounted for about 48 percent of 21,924 registered voters in Dawson County.
“We still have about 11,480 people that are actively registered to vote,” Ferguson said on Monday afternoon. “We have received some back already in the dropbox today, and if that’s any indication of how the turnout tomorrow will be we’re expecting a good turnout.”
