Equipment vandalized on construction site

Burglary recovery rate above average

A recent report on local crime statistics shows the burglary recovery rate in Dawson County is significantly higher than the national average. "Right now, if you look at the national FBI statistics for the Southeast, they say the national average is a 13 percent solve rate," said Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle. A Lumpkin County man remains in jail a week after he was charged with attempting to run over the officers who were pursuing him on an arrest warrant. Christopher Kevin Jones, 25, is being held at the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center without bond in connection with the Dec. 27 altercation that began in the parking lot of Ingles and ended after a high speed chase on Ga. 400. Grand jury hands down indictments

A convicted child molester was indicted last month on similar charges in Dawson County. Hugh Clay Williams, 33, was among the nearly three dozen people indicted Dec. 15 by a Dawson County Grand Jury. Read More



Probe ongoing into find

Authorities continue to investigate the Dec. 21 discovery of an explosive device at a downtown Dawsonville gas station. According to Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten, a 38-year-old Hall County man gave "no real reason" for having the device, which was described as an industrial grade explosive typically used on construction sites. Read More



Closure in clerk theft case

The state's cases against three people who pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the Dawson County Clerk of Courts office came to an end Tuesday with the final suspect's sentencing. Northeastern Judicial Circuit Judge Kathlene Gosselin sentenced Donna Jeanette Sheriff to 10 years, with two to be served in state prison and the remainder on probation. Read More
