The Dawson County Tigers may have the fastest and most aggressive defense the school has seen in years.

"This may be one of the fastest and most aggressive defensive teams we have put on the field in the twelve years I have been at Dawson County," said Coach Jeff Lee after a scrimmage match on Saturday.

"I was very pleased with the turnout for a scrimmage on a Saturday afternoon. A big thank you to our booster club as they once again pulled off another successful barbecue lunch."

Preseason play continues Friday when the Tigers host the Westminster Wildcats that made the state Class AA tournament last year losing to Jefferson, 28-0, in the first round.

"We are very pleased where we are currently, as a football team heading into our first preseason game,' Lee said.

Coach Gerry Romberg's team posted a 5-6 record on the 2013 season in Region 6-AA.

This season, Westminster moves up to play in Region 4-AAA with the likes of Decatur, Blessed Trinity, and Cedar Grove.

"Westminster has traditionally been a state playoff team and will be a big test for us," Lee said. "It should be a great scrimmage game. I hope everyone will come and support our Tigers."

Dawson County will play one more scrimmage game at home with North Hall on August 22 before opening the regular season at Forsyth Central on August 29.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

"We still have several areas that we need to sure up before our first regular season game versus Forsyth Central," Lee said.
