"This was a really important win and biggest win of the year," said head coach Thad Burgess. The junior varsity boys basketball team played two close games last week. Both games came down to the very end before Dawson County lost to East Hall, 55-47, on Friday in Dawsonville and Banks County, 54-50, in Homer. Read More

The varsity Tigers basketball team fell behind 23-18 at halftime but rallied to take a huge 43-27 win at Union County last Friday night. Dawson County allowed the Panthers only 4 second half points to come away with the team's 15th win of the season. Read More

Lady Tigers Carly Gilreath and Allie Costley both notched double digits in scoring at Union County last Friday night. Gilreath and Costley scored 10 points each, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Tigers dropped a 56-41 decision to the Lady Panthers in the Region 8A-AA game. Read More

Coach Thad Burgess' varsity boys basketball team notched its first Region 8A-AA win of the season Friday against Fannin County. The Tigers outscored the visiting Rebels 55-17 in front of a huge crowd in Dawsonville. The Tigers placed three players in double figures, led by Jackson Putnam with a game-high 11 points. Jonathan Sanderson and Tyler Dominy scored 10 points apiece in the 38-point win. Read More

The junior varsity boys basketball team dropped two games last week. Coach Wes Greer's team played competitively in both games, but just couldn't come away with the victory. The Dawson County wrestling team captured first place at the Amicalola Classic tournament held at Dawson County High School last week. The Dec. 29-30 event was split into two parts. On Thursday teams were placed into two pools and wrestled each other. The winner of the two pools met in the championship match later that night. Read More

Coach Steve Sweat's Dawson County High School varsity girls basketball team picked up a fourth place finish in the Battle of the States tournament at Towns County High School in Hiawassee last week. The Lady Tigers took a 66-48 win over Murphy, N.C. in the opening game of the tournament on Dec. 27. Read More

Basketball coaches use pre-region games to get their troops ready for the grueling schedule that starts in January and early February. They want to figure out player rotations, team chemistry and how they react against good teams. The week did not get off to a great start for the Dawson County Tigers varsity basketball team. Playing without head coach Thad Burgess, due to an ejection, the Tigers lost a close contest to Fellowship Christian, 44-41, on Tuesday. It was the Tigers first loss of the season. Things perked up over the weekend with two big wins over Tech High School, 100-29, on Friday and Towns County, 78-42, on Saturday. Read More

Dawson County went on its first road trip of the season last week. The Lady Tigers basketball team traveled to Cleveland to face off against White County on Nov. 29. The team was sluggish and lost to the Lady Warriors 51-48. Read More

Coach Wes Greer's junior varsity Lady Tigers basketball team played well, but couldn't catch up with visiting Gilmer County last week at home. The Lady Tigers lost 36-27 to the Bobcats. Read More
