Section of Hwy. 9 closed this weekend

Hwy. 9 S will be closed this weekend for utility work from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drivers should use detour routes outlined in the photo.

The Georgia Transmission Corporation will begin relocating utility transmission lines on Hwy. 9 this Friday and continue work through March 19. The work will require the closure of Hwy. 9 from Dawson Forest Road to Bannister Road.

Crews will work 9 a.m.-7 p.m. March 17 and continue those hours through Sunday.

The work is in preparation for the construction of a new bridge over the Etowah River, scheduled to begin in April 2017.

Georgia Transmission will set up signed detour options as follows:

Hwy. 9 southbound:

Traffic traveling south on Hwy. 9 will be directed left onto Thompson Road, right onto Hugh Stowers Road/Grizzle Road, right on Dawson Forest Road and then back to Hwy. 9.

Hwy. 9 northbound:

Traffic traveling north on Hwy. 9 will be directed right onto Dawson Forest Road, then left onto Grizzle
Road/Hugh Stowers Road, left onto Thompson Rd. and then back to Hwy. 9.

Dawson Forest Road westbound:


Traffic will be advised of the Hwy. 9 north closure via message boards placed prior to Grizzle Road, directing them to Hwy. 9 N.

Hwy. 9 S will remain open to drivers needing access to Martin Road and Bannister Road for the sports complex.

Hwy. 9 will be closed to traffic south of Bannister Road.
