Former clerk of courts pleads guilty to tax evasion, fraud

An ex-Dawson County official pleaded guilty Friday to federal tax evasion and bankruptcy fraud.

Appearing in U.S. District Court in Gainesville, Becky McCord, 62, admitted falsifying her 2009 federal income tax return and lying about her income during a bankruptcy hearing.

Man indicted in woman’s death

A Dawson County grand jury has indicted a local man on felony vehicular homicide charges in connection with a June 2010 traffic incident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old Gainesville woman.

According to the indictment, Colon Louis Hartzler, 44, was under the influence of alcohol when he attempted to turn left onto Carlisle Road from Ga. 400.

Driver faces charges in death

Jeremy Todd Adams, 30, faces seven charges including DUI and vehicular homicide following a May 27 car accident that killed a Dahlonega man, Georgia State Patrol officials said.

Officials said blood results are still pending but it appears Adams, who was driving a 1993 Isuzu Trooper, crossed the center line on Mill Creek Road at 12:35 p.m.

Former county worker agrees to reduced charge

A former Dawson County maintenance worker has been sentenced for his role in a June 2010 wreck that claimed the life of a Dawsonville man.

James "Jim" Ferrante, 42, pleaded guilty earlier this month to a reduced charge of misdemeanor reckless conduct.
