Middle Georgia student honored

Middle Georgia College has announced that a student from Dawson County was honored for scholastic achievement during the spring 2011 semester.

Chad Williams was named to the Dean's List for having at least a 3.5 grade-point average during the semester, while maintaining a full course load.

Shope a Governor’s Honors finalist

Dawson County High School student Grant Shope has been recognized as a finalist for the Georgia Governor's Honors program.

In the program, students compete for the opportunity to study in one of seven major areas: English, math, science, social studies, fine arts, agriculture or career technical education.

Sosebee graduates for Waldorf College

Waldorf College announced last week that one of Dawson County's own has graduated from the four-year institution.

During the spring 2011 semester, Shawn Matthew Sosebee of Dawsonville graduated with a bachelor's degree in foundations of education.

Family fun at Touch-A Truck

The Dawson County Library held its second annual Touch-A-Truck program from 10 a.m. until noon May 7.

More than 100 children and their families attended the event, sitting in police cars, crawling through fire trucks and ambulances, exploring an Army transport vehicle, and climbing on a sign truck with a bucket.

Turner named regional president for Y-Club

Tatum Turner, a junior at Dawson County High School, was named president of the Northwest District of the Georgia Y-Club during last month's Christian Life Conference held in Covington.

Turner has been elected for the upcoming 2011-12 term as one of four presidents serving the four Georgia regions of the Y-Club.

County manager to chair Lanier Tech foundation

A Dawson County man was recently elected to lead a foundation that supports Lanier Technical College.

Kevin Tanner, 39, who has served as vice chairman of the college's foundation board of trustees for the past 18 months, will begin his one-year term as chairman July 1.
