The Riverview Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team lost two games recently. On Nov. 15 the Eagles were defeated by Lumpkin County Middle, 38-23, and Nov. 17, the team dropped a 38-18 decision to Clear Creek Middle.
The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team lost a 26-6 decision to Pickens County Middle recently. With the Nov. 17 loss, the Lady Tigers fell to 1-1 on the season.
Head coach Steven Moates' seventh grade Dawson County Middle School boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season with a 24-15 victory over Pickens County Middle recently in Jasper. Dawson held a 14-7 lead at halftime behind leading scorer Parker Cantrell. Cantrell finished the Nov. 17 game with a team-high 9 points.
Head Coach Rhonda Sillesky continues to see improvement with her eighth grade girls basketball team at Riverview Middle. Despite the improvement the Lady Eagles dropped a close contest to Clear Creek last week, 37-32.
The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team continues to destroy its opponents. The team dominated in a 55-10 win over Pickens Middle last week in Dawsonville. Coach Tina Brown used a stifling full court press to open up a 16-4 first quarter lead. The Lady Tigers continued to pour it on the offense and extended the lead to 25-points at halftime, 33-8.
Head Coach Tina Brown and her eighth grade Lady Tigers basketball team opened the season with a huge 43-11 victory over Riverview Middle last week. Karlie Bearden led all Dawson Middle players in scoring with 18 points.
The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team won its first game of the season, 46-18, over Riverview Middle last week. The Tigers held a commanding 19-9 halftime lead over the Eagles in a game played at Riverview, Nov. 8.
The Dawson County Middle School Lady Tigers seventh grade basketball team opened the season with a 25-9 win over cross-county rival Riverview Middle School last week. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 11-2 first quarter lead and never looked back in the Nov. 8 game.
Dawson County Middle School seventh grade boys basketball coach Steven Moates' team was impressive in a 35-8 clobbering of Riverview Middle last week. The Tigers pitched a shutout in the first half of the Nov. 8 contest, holding a 19-0 lead.
The Dawson County Middle School wrestling team will open the season against cross-county rival Riverview Middle School this Thursday. The match will begin at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Riverview Middle School.
Riverview Middle School's football season ended with a 20-14 overtime loss to visiting Pickens County Middle last week. The game was replayed in its entirety Sept. 26 after a Sept. 22 game was called at halftime due to bad weather.
Threatening skies tormented the Riverview Middle School football team Sept. 22 in the team's final regular season game with visiting Pickens County Middle. After two quarters of play, administrators and game officials decided to call the game due to lightning.
Weather played havoc with Dawson County Middle School's football game at home with Fannin County last week. The game was called at halftime due to lightning and thunderstorms approaching the area. The game did not turn out as planned for the Tigers, as the team dropped a 28-0 decision to a strong Rebels team.
The Dawson County Middle School football team needed a win over visiting Jasper Middle School last week to gain some momentum going into the Mountain League playoffs. However, the Dragons used a strong running game to bounce the Tigers 38-16, Thursday.
Riverview Middle School is off to a rough start this football season. The Eagles fell to 0-3 with a 36-6 loss to Clear Creek Middle School last week in Dawsonville. The only touchdown for Riverview came on a 60-yard kickoff return by Mateo Fritz.
In what is being billed as both a cost-saving and competitive measure, Dawson County and Riverview middle schools will combine their football, softball and wrestling programs, as well as their football cheerleading squads.
The school year was a great one for sports teams from both Riverview and Dawson County middle schools.
