The Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team dropped a close 32-28 decision last week to Pickens Middle in Jasper.
With the Jan. 17 loss, the Lady Eagles are currently 4-5 on the season.
The Riverview Middle School eighth grade Lady Eagles are getting hot at just the right time of year. With the Mountain League Tournament just around the corner coach Rhonda Sillesky's team pulled off two big wins last week.
Riverview defeated Lumpkin County, 36-17, and Clear Creek, 33-30 to move the team's record to 4-4 on the season.
The seventh grade Tigers basketball team at Dawson County Middle School defeated Pickens Middle 32-12, last week in Dawsonville.
The Tigers were led in scoring in the Jan. 12 game by Austin Young. He contributed 9 points.
The Riverview Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team improved its record to 2-3 with a 22-14 win over Fannin County and a 22-11 victory over Lumpkin County recently.
Emily Queen led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 10 points against Fannin on Dec. 13.
Haley Burgess tallied 22 points in a 45-20 rout over Jasper Middle School recently at home. Burgess scored more points than the entire Jasper team.
With the win the Dawson County Middle eighth grade girls' team remains undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Dawson County Middle School wrestling program has a bright future according to Head Coach Thomy Edwards.
The Tigers wrestled their last match of the season with White County on Dec. 15. Although Dawson County lost the match, Edwards complimented his grapplers for a fine season.
It was a match-up of undefeated teams last week when the Dawson County eighth grade girls' basketball team played host to Clear Creek Middle from Gilmer County.
In the end the Lady Tigers came away with a 46-24 victory.
