Two extra-inning wins were on tap for the Dawson County Lady Tigers varsity softball team last week. Head Coach Jimmy Pruett and his team picked up an important Region 8A-AA win over East Hall on Tuesday, 1-0, and on Wednesday they came from behind to defeat Pickens, 4-3.
Jenna Abbott had a great week, not only from the pitcher's mound, but with her bat as well.
High school football will start for most teams in the state Friday night. It will be a chance for players and coaches to see how far they have come after all the weight training, agilities, passing camps and conditioning over the summer.
The time is now for the Dawson County football team. The Tigers open the season with a showdown against neighboring Pickens County High School on Friday night at a renovated Tiger Stadium.
The sound of a softball hitting a mitt and the sharp metallic noise that a bat makes when it connects just right are starting to be heard again at Dawson County High School. Yes, softball season is almost here and for the Dawson County Lady Tigers games will begin soon.

Summer break is coming to a close for Dawson County High School students, but the school's cross country program has yet to take a break. Both the boys and girls teams have used the summer months to prepare for the upcoming season beginning this month.
Runners have trained at least two days a week to prepare themselves for the 3.1 miles they must run in each meet.
