Battle of the offenses
Coach Jeff Lee's Dawson County High School Tiger football team is now fighting for its postseason life. The team is trying to secure the No. 4 seed in Region 7-AAA and a trip to the state playoffs.
Team hopes for chemistry
Basketball is just around the corner for head coach Thad Burgess's boys team at Dawson County High School. The Tigers are trying to follow arguably the best team in Dawson County history this season with most of the starters returning.
Team finishes fifth
The Dawson County High School Tiger cross country team finished in fifth place at the Bob Roller Invitational at East Jackson High School last week. Dawson County recorded 249 points in the 27 team event Oct. 18.
Ladies compete in Commerce
The Dawson County High School varsity girls cross country team finished in eighth place at the Bob Roller Invitational Meet in Commerce last week. The Lady Tigers posted 254 team points at the Oct. 18 event.
Junior varsity Tigers improve record
The Dawson County High School junior varsity football team improved its record to 3-4 with a convincing 42-0 win over Fannin County last week at Tiger Stadium. Freshman running back Logan Hurst had a huge game. Hurst had four rushing touchdowns and two, 2-point conversions in the Oct. 18 win.
First quarter woes
The first quarter proved to be too much for the Dawson County High School varsity football team to overcome Friday night. The Tigers spotted the defending Class AA state runners-up Buford High School Wolves (4-3; 2-2) 21 points to begin the second quarter.
Season ends at Ringgold
The softball season came to an end for nine Dawson County seniors last week in Ringgold. The Lady Tigers lost both games of a doubleheader, 1-0 and 11-0, to close the careers of Jenna Abbott, Samantha Moulder, Carly Gilreath, Gracie Hovan, Becca Monkus, Taylor Shirley, Taylor Willoughby, Kenna Seitz and Natalie Burt.
Ladies advance
The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tiger softball team advanced to the second round of the Class AAA state playoffs with a sweep of Woodward Academy in Atlanta Oct. 10. Coach Jimmy Pruett's team run-ruled Woodward in five innings. The Lady Tigers took the first game by a score of 9-1 before taking the second game by a 5-3 score.
Ringgold coming up
Dawson County will advance to the second round of the state playoffs with a journey to the Northwest corner of the state to face Ringgold. It will be a tough series for head coach Jimmy Pruett's Lady Tiger softball team.
JV team drops game to Pickens County
The Dawson County High School junior varsity football team dropped a 30-0 decision at Pickens County High School on Oct. 11. With the loss, the team fell to 2-3 overall.
Girls take sixth place
The Dawson County High School girls cross country team finished in sixth place at the sixth annual Buford Invitational Oct. 10. The Lady Tigers earned 152 points.
Forester claims title
Tiger Dylan Forester captured the individual title at the sixth annual Buford Invitational cross country meet Oct. 10. Forester finished the 3.1-mile course with a time of 17:24, 8 seconds faster than runner-up, Max Warner, from Forsyth Central High School.
Fourth inning dooms ladies
One bad inning was all it took for Dawson County to lose a heartbreaking 4-1 decision to reigning state champion Buford last week. The Lady Tigers couldn't overcome a 4-run fourth inning in the Oct. 3 loss.
Girls finish 11th at meet
Dawson County High School sophomore Cassidy Lecours led all Lady Tigers at the Mountain Invitational cross country meet at Unicoi State Park in Helen last week. Lecours finished the hilly course Oct. 4 with a time of 22:39. The time was good for 54th place out of 169 runners.
Tigers win easy
Three first quarter touchdown passes from quarterback Tyler Dominy helped Dawson County pick up its second Region 7-AAA win Friday night. The 21-0 first quarter sealed the fate for Banks County (1-5; 0-3).

Tough week for Tigers
Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding. The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.
Battle of two top 10s
Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium. Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
Boys win hard fought game
Dawson County High School varsity soccer coach Jed Lacey was noticeably unhappy with how his third-ranked Dawson County Tigers played against White County on March 22 at Tiger Stadium. "It was a very sluggish game," Lacey said. "I knew coming back from the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island we would have to get the engines going again. This was not one of our better games, but we pushed through it and did enough to win. I'm glad we got that game out of our system."
Weather hinders team
Fighting the elements and some good Class AAA teams, the Dawson County High School varsity Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week. Weather was an issue last week. On March 18, the Tigers were rained out against White County. The game was pushed back a day and was played on March 19 in Cleveland. Dawson County came out on the good end of a 4-3 win.
