JV runners finish second

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys cross country team came in second place in last Thursday's region meet at Oglethorpe County High School.

Dawson accumulated 59 team points to come just short of team champion Jefferson, who had 50 points.

Three in a row

It was a rainy, cold and dreary night in Tiger on Friday. Despite a literally "sloppy" start, the Dawson County Tigers picked up the team's third win in a row with a 38-7 decision over Rabun County (3-6; 1-4).

The Tigers are 5-4 overall. It is Dawson's first five-win season since 2005, when the Tigers finished 7-3.

Walters tops in region

Cross country is becoming a force to be reckoned with at Dawson County High School.

At last week's Region 8-AA meet at Oglethorpe County High School, both teams qualified for the state meet that will be held Saturday in Carollton.

Tigers maul Vikings

Defense has been an underlying issue for Dawson County all season. Things are looking brighter for the undersized squad as the Tigers forced East Hall into six turnovers in a 49-7 shellacking of the visiting Vikings.

The six turnovers led to 35 first half points as Dawson strolled to an easy Region 8-AA victory.

Tigers take the win

The Dawson County High School varsity Tigers football team knows that it has to win in order to have a shot at the Region 8A-AA title. Despite a stagnant offense the Tigers came away with a 22-19 win over Union County (1-5; 0-3) Friday night.

The Tigers are currently 3-4 overall on the season, but more importantly are 2-1 in Region 8A-AA play.

Ladies season is over

Lady Tigers' seniors Kristi Hyams, Anna Torres, Kimberly Wallace and Morgan Huber played their last games as Dawson County High School varsity softball players Thursday at Jack Waldrip Field in Dawsonville.

Dawson County was eliminated from the first round of state sectionals by a very gritty team from Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe. The final score Thursday was 11-2.

JV teams run well at Oglethorpe

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams competed in a meet at Oglethorpe County High School over the weekend.

Dawson County had 27 runners competing in the Oct. 15 event. There were 82 runners from eight different high schools in the meet.

Softball players are state bound

Dawson County will make its first appearance in a state playoff since 2008 after finishing in second place at the Region 8-AA tournament last week.

The Lady Tigers couldn't find a way to beat eventual region champion Union County. The Lady Panthers shut down the Dawson offense and won the games 7-0 and 12-0.

4th quarter sinks Tigers

Frustration was evident on Dawson County Head Football Coach Jeff Lee's face as time expired Friday night. The Tigers fell 19-14 to Banks County.

The Tigers had an opportunity to go 2-0 in Region 8A-AA with a win, but it didn't happen.

Region meet to be tough

Region 8-AA could be the most difficult region overall for both boys and girls cross country in Georgia.

According to state rankings, as voted on by coaches, the region owns spots four through eight on the boys' side. North Oconee is fourth, East Jackson fifth, Dawson County is sixth, Jefferson holds down the number seven position, while Hart County is ranked eighth.

Ladies finish 2nd in region

Playoff time is here for the Dawson County Lady Tigers varsity softball team.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett's squad captured second place in Region 8A-AA with a 7-3 record and a 16-7 overall record.

This time the Tigers held a late lead and came away with a victory.

Prior to Friday night's 35-30 victory over Fannin County, the Tigers had lost two games, against Chestatee and Gilmer County, where leads were lost in the final minutes.

JV softball season ends

Dawson County High School junior varsity softball coach Nickie Rogers' team finished the 2011 season last week with an overall record of 3-7.

The Lady Tigers played the last game against Fannin County Sept. 27. Despite playing hard, the team lost 18-3.
