Tough week for Tigers

Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding. The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.

Battle of two top 10s

Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium. Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Boys win hard fought game

Dawson County High School varsity soccer coach Jed Lacey was noticeably unhappy with how his third-ranked Dawson County Tigers played against White County on March 22 at Tiger Stadium. "It was a very sluggish game," Lacey said. "I knew coming back from the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island we would have to get the engines going again. This was not one of our better games, but we pushed through it and did enough to win. I'm glad we got that game out of our system."

Weather hinders team

Fighting the elements and some good Class AAA teams, the Dawson County High School varsity Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week. Weather was an issue last week. On March 18, the Tigers were rained out against White County. The game was pushed back a day and was played on March 19 in Cleveland. Dawson County came out on the good end of a 4-3 win.

Ladies remain undefeated

The fourth-ranked, Class AAA, Lady Tiger soccer team is currently 7-0 on the season after defeating three teams in Jekyll Island over the weekend. Head coach Jed Lacey's team dominated Cedar Shoals, Aquinas and Richmond Academy.

Boys take tourney

The Dawson County boys soccer team traveled to Jekyll Island over the weekend and proved why it is ranked No. 4 in Class AAA. The Tigers didn't give up a goal as the team defeated Cedar Shoals, 3-0, Brunswick, 5-0 and Richmond Academy, 6-0, at the Tournament of Champions event.

On the right track

The Dawson County track team picked up two huge wins last week with a tri-match against Forsyth Central and Fannin County in Dawsonville. The Lady Tigers scored 101 points to capture first place. Central tallied 35 points and Fannin scored 25 points.

Tiger receives ‘Blue Collar’ award

Dawson County High School football player Zack Martin was one of 10 players in the state of Georgia to receive the NAPA Auto Parts/Larry Csonka "Blue Collar Player of the Year" award. The award, which was presented March 19 in Macon, is given to "hard-working" players that, according to NFL Hall of Famer Larry Csonka in a released statement, "show up for work every day and never complain, unsung heroes who spend little time in ...
