It was a festive and exciting time on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.

The Dawson County High School football team held its annual spring game in hot and humid weather. The Dawson faithful didn't let the weather bother them as they enjoyed a day of games, rides, a car show and plenty of food.

Coach: This group pulled together

The Dawson County High School girls' soccer program held its end-of-year banquet last week. Head Coach Jed Lacey presented participation certificates or letters to 34 players and managers.

Lacey lost five seniors and two managers following the conclusion of the past season.

Scrimmage is Saturday

The Tiger football team finished its first week of spring practice. The team will continue to prepare this week for a scrimmage game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

Dawson County High School junior Madalyn Walters had a strong showing at the state track meet last week in Albany. Walters finished as state runner-up in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter.

GHSA votes to make changes

The Georgia High School Association voted last Tuesday to expand to six classifications for athletic competition, largely because of the unity of metro Atlanta.

The varsity football team will "hit the ground running" during spring practice which began Monday. According to Head Coach Jeff Lee, the coaching staff will speed things up for his older players.

Surrounded by his parents, sister, coaches and friends, Dawson County High School senior Kaleb Holbrook signed an athletic scholarship to play baseball at South Georgia College in Douglas, Ga.

Walters breaks record

Madalyn Walters is headed to the girl's state track meet. Walters captured the Region 8-AA championship last week in the 3,200-meters at East Jackson High School in Commerce. Walters finished a considerable distance ahead of second place runner Dorie Faber of North Oconee who was 23 seconds behind her.

Ladies season comes to an end

The Lady Tiger soccer season has come to an end. Dawson lost a close match to East Jackson, 1-0, last Wednesday that eliminated the team from region tournament play.
