Forester leads Tiger runners
Dawson County High School Tiger cross country runner Dylan Forester ran a great race at the prestigious Mountain Invitational meet at Unicoi State Park in Helen last week. Forester posted a time of 16:48 to take fourth place in the Oct. 4 race that included 199 runners.
Ladies mow down competition
The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers softball team is on a roll at just the right time. The Lady Tigers entered the Region 7-AAA tournament at East Hall with a win over North Hall, 4-2, on senior night and then followed it up with a huge victory over Class AAA No. 1 ranked Buford by a 5-3 score.
Tigers fall to Trojans
A packed house at Tiger Stadium had their hopes dashed on Friday night. North Hall controlled both offense and defense and came away with a 47-14 win over the Dawson County High School Tigers. The Tigers are currently 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 7-AAA play.
Big week ahead for players
The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers softball team entered the last week of the regular season with two Region 7-AAA games. The team played North Hall on Monday and will square off against No. 1 ranked Buford on Wednesday.
Basketball teams to play at Philips Arena
Dawson County High School varsity basketball coaches Thad Burgess and Steve Sweat recently announced that both the boys and girls varsity teams will play a game at Philips Arena during the upcoming season. The Tigers will take on Rabun County on Jan. 19 in Atlanta.
Team runs at Wesleyan
The Dawson County High School cross country team recently participated in a meet at the Wesleyan School. Jade Perry led the Lady Tigers at the Sept. 15 event with a time of 23:16 and a 41st place finish out of 99 total runners.
Ladies defeat Fannin in seventh
Dawson County softball is currently ranked No. 4 in Class AAA as voted on in the coaches poll. The Lady Tigers moved up two spots from No. 6 in last week's voting. Head coach Jimmy Pruett's team has a hard road ahead of them with games at No. 1-ranked Buford, 17-1, Tuesday and a home game against a talented West Hall team on Thursday. Both are Region 7-AAA games.
Tigers take down Bulldogs
Fumbles hindered Dawson County's offense in the first half against Forsyth Central. Once the turnovers stopped, there was nothing holding back Tigers quarterback Tyler Dominy. Dominy completed 23 of 29 passes for 412 yards and six touchdowns, leading Dawson to a 48-29 victory against Central on Friday at the Bulldogs' field.
Tigers fall to Raiders
After trailing 28-14 entering the fourth quarter, the Raiders erupted for 21 unanswered points and defeated Dawson County 35-28 on Friday at Tiger Stadium. "I'm just excited that all the hard work paid off," North coach Blair Armstrong said.
Ladies take two
Dawson County High School Varsity Softball Coach Jimmy Pruett's team won two games last week. On Sept. 4, the team traveled to Union County and came away with a big 6-1 victory.
JV girls 0-2
The Dawson County High School Junior Varsity Softball team dropped an away game, 6-5, against East Hall on Thursday. Coach Nickie Rogers' team is currently 0-2 on the season.
Bats take care of Banks
Timely hitting and good defense allowed coach Jimmy Pruett's Lady Tiger softball team to pick up its first Region 7-AAA win of the season Aug. 30 over Banks County. Behind the strong pitching of Jenna Abbott and Martie Rogers, Dawson came away with a 6-3 victory.
Defense records shutout
Defense is the talk of every Tiger fan. The Tiger "D" provided another shutout Friday night against Lumpkin County.
Tigers dominate
Dawson County dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage in Friday night's opening game over visiting East Hall. The Tigers came away with a convincing 42-0 win. The Tiger offense clicked on all cylinders and amassed an amazing 385 yards.
Lady runners open season
The Dawson County High School Lady Tiger cross country team opened the season with a meet at Athens Christian High School on Saturday. Head Coach Brian DeRose's team competed against some stiff competition in the Northeast Georgia Cross Country championships.

Led team to state championship
When he began coaching basketball, Dawson County's Steve Sweat never imagined that he would be coaching a girls' team, much less guiding them to a state championship game. Sweat started out coaching a boys basketball program, but when he changed schools to work closer to home, the only position available was as an assistant coach to the girls basketball team. Ladies 9-1 overall
The Lady Tigers completed their toughest week of the season so far last week. Dawson County split games with an overtime win against West Hall, 3-2, and a loss at No. 1-ranked in Class AAA Blessed Trinity on Thursday, 2-0.
Gilreath player of the year
Dawson County senior Carly Gilreath had a couple of big goals to accomplish in her final high school season. First, she wanted to surpass 1,000 points for her career, something she did back in December in a win over Hoke's Bluff, Ala. in the Battle of the States tournament in Hiawassee.
Tough week for Tigers
Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding. The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.
Battle of two top 10s
Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium. Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
Boys win hard fought game
Dawson County High School varsity soccer coach Jed Lacey was noticeably unhappy with how his third-ranked Dawson County Tigers played against White County on March 22 at Tiger Stadium. "It was a very sluggish game," Lacey said. "I knew coming back from the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island we would have to get the engines going again. This was not one of our better games, but we pushed through it and did enough to win. I'm glad we got that game out of our system."
Weather hinders team
Fighting the elements and some good Class AAA teams, the Dawson County High School varsity Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week. Weather was an issue last week. On March 18, the Tigers were rained out against White County. The game was pushed back a day and was played on March 19 in Cleveland. Dawson County came out on the good end of a 4-3 win.
