Ladies fall to Banks, East Hall

It was a long, rough week for the Dawson County Lady Tigers basketball team.

Coach Steve Sweat's team dropped Region 8A-AA games to Banks County, 69-57, and No. 5-ranked East Hall, 64-46.

Tigers claw way to victory

Dawson County fought back from a 9-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Banks County, 64-58, last week.

"This was a really important win and biggest win of the year," said head coach Thad Burgess. "Our kids were down 9 points in the last quarter and we were able to keep battling and make the plays at the end. We showed great effort and dedication against Banks."

JV girls lose to Vikings

The Dawson County junior varsity girls basketball team lost a close contest to East Hall in Dawsonville last week.

Jordan Moore led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 9 points in the 35-31 loss on Jan. 27.

Tigers play two close games

The junior varsity boys basketball team played two close games last week.

Both games came down to the very end before Dawson County lost to East Hall, 55-47, on Friday in Dawsonville and Banks County, 54-50, in Homer.

Ladies fall to Union

Lady Tigers Carly Gilreath and Allie Costley both notched double digits in scoring at Union County last Friday night.

Gilreath and Costley scored 10 points each, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Tigers dropped a 56-41 decision to the Lady Panthers in the Region 8A-AA game.

Wrestlers improve

The Dawson County varsity wrestling team improved to a dual record of 23-7 with three wins last week.

Head coach Arron Haynes' Tigers team defeated Oglethorpe County, 57-23, Buford, 48-27 and East Hall, 54-22, in matches held at Buford High School.

Tigers rally for the win

The varsity Tigers basketball team fell behind 23-18 at halftime but rallied to take a huge 43-27 win at Union County last Friday night.

Dawson County allowed the Panthers only 4 second half points to come away with the team's 15th win of the season.

Wrestlers celebrate seniors

The Dawson County High School wrestling team celebrated Senior Night last week with wins over Mt. Pisgah Christian School and Riverside Military Academy.

Head Coach Arron Haynes honored his six seniors and their parents with a ceremony between matches Jan. 10.

Ladies fall to East Hall

The Lady Tigers basketball team split a couple of games last week. Coach Steve Sweat's team dropped a 60-43 decision to No. 10 ranked in AA, East Hall, but picked up a huge 62-30 win over visiting Fannin County.

The Lady Tigers had a tough task against East Hall. The Lady Vikings have two players that have already signed to play college basketball next season.

Tigers rout Rebels

Coach Thad Burgess' varsity boys basketball team notched its first Region 8A-AA win of the season Friday against Fannin County. The Tigers outscored the visiting Rebels 55-17 in front of a huge crowd in Dawsonville.

The Tigers placed three players in double figures, led by Jackson Putnam with a game-high 11 points. Jonathan Sanderson and Tyler Dominy scored 10 points apiece in the 38-point win.

Sweat records 400th win

Dawson County High School coach Steve Sweat picked up his 400th career win on Saturday with a 47-31 defeat of Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.

It was another milestone in an illustrious career that has spanned more than 28 years coaching both boys and girls basketball in Georgia.

Tigers lose close one

Two of the best teams, with arguably two of the best players in Region 8-AA, squared off Friday night in Dawsonville.

The Dawson County Tigers and the Rabun County Wildcats, ranked No. 7 in AA, fought down to the final buzzer in one of the most exciting games in recent history.

JV girls look to rebound

The Dawson County junior varsity girls basketball team lost to Rabun County, 34-25, and Lumpkin County, 23-16, last week.

The Lady Tigers are currently 2-6 overall on the season.

JV boys drop two

The junior varsity boys basketball team dropped two games last week. Coach Wes Greer's team played competitively in both games, but just couldn't come away with the victory.

On Jan. 6, the boys lost to visiting Rabun County, 50-36. The Tigers traveled to Dahlonega on Jan. 7 and lost to a very good Lumpkin County team, 42-35.
