Tigers grapplers are 10-4

The Dawson County High School wrestling team raised its overall record to 10-4 with a convincing 69-9 win over Stephens County last week.

The Dec. 20 match was originally scheduled as a tri-meet in Toccoa, however, Smokey Mountain, N.C. wasn't able to make the event.

Wrestlers take two of three

Head Coach Arron Haynes' Dawson County High School wrestling team won two of three matches last week. The Tigers are currently 8-4 overall on the season.

The Tigers traveled Dec. 13 to Dahlonega to wrestle Lumpkin County and White County.

Slow start stalls ladies team

It was an up and down week for head coach Steve Sweat's varsity Lady Tigers basketball team.

The team began the week with a visit to Ellijay for a rematch with Gilmer County.

Tigers 8-1 on season

It was a great week for the Dawson County High School varsity boys basketball team. The Tigers played well and defeatg Gilmer County 65-59 and Lumpkin County 57-43.

With the two wins Dawson County stands at 8-1 overall.

Tigers’ tally 2nd at Rumble on the Ridge

The Dawson County High School varsity wrestling team picked up a second place finish at the Rumble on the Ridge Dual Tournament held at Fannin County High School.

Coach Arron Haynes' squad notched wins against Murphy High School from North Carolina, 53-30, Riverside Military Academy, 45-29 and dominated Union County in a shutout, 84-0.

Walters runner of the year

To many, running is nothing more than putting one foot in front of the other. It's a means to an end: Getting from one place to another or staying in shape.

But for Dawson County's Madalyn Walters, it's much more. It's become a way of life.

The Dawson County High School junior varsity girls basketball team pulled out two wins last week.

Coach Mark Ragsdale's team defeated Pinecrest Academy, 51-13 and Lumpkin County, 51-18.

Tigers split matches

The Dawson County High School Tigers wrestling team traveled to Blessed Trinity last week for a tri-match with Milton and Blessed Trinity.

Head Coach Arron Haynes' team wrestled hard Dec. 6 and defeated Milton, 48-30, before losing to Blessed Trinity, 41-30, in a very close match.

Ladies pick up two wins

Steve Sweat's varsity girls basketball team had a very productive week.

The Lady Tigers defeated Fellowship Christian, 43-16, on Dec. 6 and Tech High School on Dec. 9, 62-11, before being defeated by state ranked in single A, Towns County, 76-46 on Saturday.

Boys fall to Fellowship

The week did not get off to a great start for the Dawson County Tigers varsity basketball team. Playing without head coach Thad Burgess, due to an ejection, the Tigers lost a close contest to Fellowship Christian, 44-41, on Tuesday. It was the Tigers first loss of the season.

Things perked up over the weekend with two big wins over Tech High School, 100-29, on Friday and Towns County, 78-42, on Saturday.

Girls use defense to defeat Pinecrest

Coach Mark Ragsdale's junior varsity girls' basketball team tallied a 1-1 record over the last week.

The Lady defeated Pinecrest Academy, 51-13, on Dec. 9 before losing, 47-44, at Towns County on Dec. 10.

Busy week for grapplers

It was a busy and successful week for the Dawson County wrestling team.

Head Coach Arron Haynes' grapplers began the week with a Nov. 29 home match against Johnson and Monroe Area.

Girls fall to White County

Dawson County went on its first road trip of the season last week.

The Lady Tigers basketball team traveled to Cleveland to face off against White County on Nov. 29. The team was sluggish and lost to the Lady Warriors 51-48.

Still undefeated

Undefeated has a nice sound to it, every team strives to win every game it plays. So far that has been true for the Dawson County varsity boys basketball team coached by Thad Burgess.

The Tigers are currently 4-0 with big wins at White County, 38-24, and a huge home win over formerlly undefeated Gilmer County, 55-48.

Coach Wes Greer's junior varsity Lady Tigers basketball team played well, but couldn't catch up with visiting Gilmer County last week at home.

The Lady Tigers lost 36-27 to the Bobcats.
