4th quarter sinks Tigers

Frustration was evident on Dawson County Head Football Coach Jeff Lee's face as time expired Friday night. The Tigers fell 19-14 to Banks County.

The Tigers had an opportunity to go 2-0 in Region 8A-AA with a win, but it didn't happen.

Region meet to be tough

Region 8-AA could be the most difficult region overall for both boys and girls cross country in Georgia.

According to state rankings, as voted on by coaches, the region owns spots four through eight on the boys' side. North Oconee is fourth, East Jackson fifth, Dawson County is sixth, Jefferson holds down the number seven position, while Hart County is ranked eighth.

Ladies finish 2nd in region

Playoff time is here for the Dawson County Lady Tigers varsity softball team.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett's squad captured second place in Region 8A-AA with a 7-3 record and a 16-7 overall record.

Tigers outplay Rebels

This time the Tigers held a late lead and came away with a victory.

Prior to Friday night's 35-30 victory over Fannin County, the Tigers had lost two games, against Chestatee and Gilmer County, where leads were lost in the final minutes.

JV softball season ends

Dawson County High School junior varsity softball coach Nickie Rogers' team finished the 2011 season last week with an overall record of 3-7.

The Lady Tigers played the last game against Fannin County Sept. 27. Despite playing hard, the team lost 18-3.

Tigers prepare for Fannin

It is time for football to heat up this week.

After a week off, Dawson County will open Region 8A-AA play with an away game in Blue Ridge Friday night. Getting off to a good start is imperative for Head Coach Jeff Lee's Tigers.

Ladies take down East Hall

Martie Rogers pitched five strong innings in a 4-2 win over visiting East Hall last week.

Rogers kept the Lady Vikings hitters off balance all afternoon with a variety of pitches to shutdown a much improved East Hall team Sept. 19.

Walters wins two

Madalyn Walters continued her winning ways with a first place finish at the Clash of Titans cross country meet at Blessed Trinity High School in Roswell on Saturday.

Walters covered the course in a time of 20:24.15 to easily defeat second place finisher Bailey Willett of Blessed Trinity, 20:43.46, and third place runner Olivia Pigg of North Oconee, 20:58.72.

Boys team finishes third

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams competed in the fifth annual Eagle Run at East Jackson High on Sept. 17.

Cassidy Lecours led the Lady Tigers with a sixth place finish and a time of 24:37.06.

Runner Walters leads the pack

Maddy Walters won the girls varsity race at the 5th Annual Eagle Run at East Jackson High School Saturday.

Walters set a new course record with a time of 18:59:09 to finish 33-seconds ahead of second place finisher Taylor Long of West Hall. Hall competed the course in 19:32.83.

Ladies have tough week coming up

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett's varsity Lady Tigerx softball team is in for a tough week.

The week will decide which team will take control of Region 8A-AA North. Dawson will have home games Sept. 22 against Union County and Sept. 27 against Fannin County.

Tigers lead until fourth

The Dawson County High School varsity Tigers football team was part of another thrilling football game Friday night at Chestatee High School in Gainesville.

Trailing 21-3 at halftime, the Tigers rallied to take a 22-21 lead in the fourth quarter. However, Chestate scored with 1:55 left to take the 27-22 win.

Junior varsity remains undefeated

Using a stingy defense and an opportune offense the Dawson County High School junior varsity Tigers football team defeated Pickens, 14-6, last Thursday in Tigers Stadium.

The Tigers remain undefeated at 3-0 this season.

Dawson falls to Jefferson

The Jefferson High School Dragons used a 35-point second quarter to run away with a decisive 42-14 win against the Dawson County Tigers Friday night.

Jefferson moved to a perfect 3-0 while the Tigers, after winning the first game of the season against Pickens, dropped to 1-2. The team lost to Gilmer County in overtime last week.

Tigers run at UGA

The Dawson County High School cross country team ran at the University of Georgia Invitational meet Sept. 3 in Athens. The 5,000-meter race was held at the Equestrian Center.

Madalyn Walters ran a wonderful race. She finished in third place and earned National Elite status for the second time this season. Walters recorded a time of 19:19.93, just behind first place winner Morgan Ilse of Marist, 19:07.19, and second place finisher Sarah Bowles, 19:07.21, of Lakeside, Evans.
