Ladies improve to 11-1

The Class AAA No. 4 ranked Lady Tiger soccer team picked up two big wins last week. Dawson County defeated Lakeview Academy, 7-0, on April 10, and followed with a big 5-0 Region 7-AAA win over East Hall on Friday.

Team splits two games

Dawson County High School varsity boys soccer coach Jed Lacey's team played two nail biters last week. The Tigers defeated Lakeview Academy, 3-2, on a goal with only four seconds remaining in the match and lost to East Hall, 1-0, after two overtimes and 11 rounds of penalty kicks.

Golfers 15-3 for season

The Dawson County High School boys' golf team improved its record to 15-3 last week. Coach Wes Greer's team began the week playing in the War Eagle Invitational at Crystal Falls Golf Club on April 8. The team shot a season low 325 to take ninth place in the event.

Eagles named runners-up

A talented Riverview Middle boys soccer team went into the recent championship game with a lot of confidence. Coach Patrick Johnston's team defeated Pickens 4-1 in the semi-finals to force a match-up with Clear Creek Middle School in the championship game March 28.

Girls win championship

A classic game between two equally skilled teams took place recently at Dawson County Middle School. The Mountain League Championship on March 28 between Dawson County and Riverview middle schools fares well for the future of soccer in Dawson County.

Tigers take down Fannin

While most students were enjoying spring break last week, the Dawson County High School varsity baseball team played three close Region 7-AAA games. Two games were decided by one run and a third was won in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Tennis team in full swing

The Dawson County High School tennis team's season is in full swing. The boys and girls teams have improved each week this season in preparation for the Region 7-AAA tournament in mid-April.

Ladies 9-1 overall

The Lady Tigers completed their toughest week of the season so far last week. Dawson County split games with an overtime win against West Hall, 3-2, and a loss at No. 1-ranked in Class AAA Blessed Trinity on Thursday, 2-0.

Tough week for Tigers

Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding. The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.

Battle of two top 10s

Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium. Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Boys win hard fought game

Dawson County High School varsity soccer coach Jed Lacey was noticeably unhappy with how his third-ranked Dawson County Tigers played against White County on March 22 at Tiger Stadium. "It was a very sluggish game," Lacey said. "I knew coming back from the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island we would have to get the engines going again. This was not one of our better games, but we pushed through it and did enough to win. I'm glad we got that game out of our system."

Lady Eagles outlast rivals

The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagle soccer team avenged an earlier defeat to rival Dawson County Middle with a 4-2 win March 21. Earlier this season, the Lady Tigers defeated Riverview by a 3-1 score.

Riverview defeats Dawson

The Riverview Middle School boys soccer team defeated Dawson County Middle, 4-1, last week. Coach Patrick Johnston's team followed Thursday's win with a 9-0 thrashing of Jasper Middle on Friday.

Weather hinders team

Fighting the elements and some good Class AAA teams, the Dawson County High School varsity Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week. Weather was an issue last week. On March 18, the Tigers were rained out against White County. The game was pushed back a day and was played on March 19 in Cleveland. Dawson County came out on the good end of a 4-3 win.

Boys take tourney

The Dawson County boys soccer team traveled to Jekyll Island over the weekend and proved why it is ranked No. 4 in Class AAA. The Tigers didn't give up a goal as the team defeated Cedar Shoals, 3-0, Brunswick, 5-0 and Richmond Academy, 6-0, at the Tournament of Champions event.

The Dawson County High School varsity girls soccer team improved its record to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in Region 7-AAA play with two wins last week.

The Dawson County High School varsity boys soccer team outscored its two opponents 19-1 last week to improve its overall record to 12-2. More importantly, the team is 4-1 in region 7-AAA play.

Team bounces back

Dawson County High School varsity baseball coach Jimmy Pruett breathed a sigh of relief after Saturday's final out against Banks County. His Tigers broke a five game losing streak, by beating the Leopards, 14-0.
