8th grade Lady Tigers end season

Head Coach Nichole Green's eighth grade Lady Tiger basketball team made it to the Mountain League Championship semi-finals before being eliminated by Fannin County Middle School last Friday night. The Lady Tigers began the tournament, held in Pickens County, with a close 34-29 win over Union County Middle School. Emily Ayers led all Dawson scorers with 13 points. Tigers defeat Panthers

Dawson County has a strangle hold over Union County. The Tigers defeated Union for the ninth consecutive time last Friday night in Blairsville. Behind the great offensive performance by Stephen Scaife and Tyler Dominy, with 26 and 25 points respectively, the Tigers captured a 66-46 win over their archrivals Union County.

Ladies have tough week

It was a tough week for the Dawson County Lady Tiger varsity basketball team. Head Coach Steve Sweat's team played two top-10 ranked AA opponents in Rabun County, No. 3, and North Oconee, No. 10. To make matters worse, both games were long road trips.

The Dawson County Lady Tigers varsity girls' basketball team defeated Dodge County by a score of 71-40 to advance to the Elite Eight round of the state tournament.

The team will face off next week against Laney High School.

Top-ranked Dawson County is now 27-0 after Saturday night's nail-biting 51-45 win over East Hall to claim the 7-AAA championship at Franklin County in Carnesville

The Varsity boys' basketball season has come to an end.

Coach Thad Burgess' squad lost to Franklin County in the opening round of the Region 7-AAA tournament, 63-57.

Tiger grapplers finish in top 5

Coach Arron Haynes' Dawson County High School wrestling team competed at the State Traditional tournament in Macon Feb. 12-14. The Tigers took six wrestlers to the meet led by Gavin Brown (195 pounds), Harrison Adams (138 pounds), Jeremy Whalen (145 pounds), Brett Whalen (182 pounds), Ty Williams (heavyweight), and Justin Evans (113 pounds). All six wrestlers finished in the top ten.

Two-time state champion, Gavin Brown, finished in fourth place at state. Brown moved up a weight class this season and completed the season with a 44-8 record.

The Dawson County girls' soccer team opened the season with wins over Winder-Barrow, 7-0, on Feb. 10 and North Forsyth, 2-0, Feb. 13.

Coach Jed Lacey's team is currently ranked No, 7 in the latest Class AAA rankings.
