Four Racers qualify for state

The Dawsonville Racer Swim team competed in the Georgia Park and Recreation District 7 swim meet on Saturday, July 10 at the Lanier Aquatic Club in Gainesville. Dawsonville qualified fours swimmers for the state meet on July 23-24 in Tifton.

Eagles attend camp

The Riverview Middle School Eagle football team is busily preparing for the upcoming 2010 campaign. Head Coach Mark Thomason's team participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes passing camp at North Hall Middle School last Wednesday.

The countdown is on

Just 30 days remain before the opening of the 2010 Dawson County Tiger football season. Head Coach Jeff Lee's team will open the season with a scrimmage game with the Greater Atlanta Christian school at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in Dawsonville.

Stroking right along

The Dawsonville Racer swim team picked up several first place ribbons at a recent tri-meet held July 5 at Coosawattee River Resort in Ellijay. Along with Dawsonville was the Coosawattee swim team and the Pickens County Sea Dragons.

Last week was what is referred to as "Dead Week" by the Georgia High School Association By-Laws. The name is given to the July 4th holiday week by the association.

The Tiger basketball team has finished its summer basketball camp play. The team was very successful and finished the summer with a record of 23-11.

The Dawson County Park and Recreation 7-year-old baseball team advanced to the state tournament, which continues through July 7 at Wills Park in Alpharetta.

The Dawsonville Racer swim team participated in a Splash meet in Habersham County on June 19. The meet was held at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Cornelia.

Team preparing for upcoming football season

The Dawson County High School football team is preparing for the upcoming 2010 campaign. The team has been participating in workouts from 7:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the high school.

Tigers travel to Auburn

Head Coach Thad Burgess and his Dawson County Tiger basketball team traveled to Auburn University last Thursday. The team played summer games against some of the best teams in Alabama and the Southeast during the 3-day camp.

Gilreath named second-team all area

Chase Gilreath has been named second team All-Area by the Gainesville Times. The Tiger senior will continue his baseball career at the collegiate level next year at Columbus State.

Sophomore track sensation Madalyn Walters was named first team All-Area by the Gainesville Times last week.

Vinson recognized for season

Senior Lady Tiger soccer player Lindsey Vinson was named second team All-Area by the Gainesville Times last week. Vinson recorded seven shutouts, five in area play, from her goalie position for Dawson County Head Coach Rick Corwin.
