I am not sure what it is about men and grocery stores, but those long mysterious aisles seem to present a conundrum to a lot of men. Or maybe it's just my husband.

Land purchases under way for Ga. 400/Hwy. 53 project

Right-of-way acquisition is just starting on a major and unique-for-Georgia retooling of Ga. 400 at Hwy. 53 in Dawson County, one of the region's busiest intersections.

The cost of acquiring the 33 parcels is $9.5 million, a process that could take up to 18 months to complete, said Teri N. Pope, a Hall County-based spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Marcia Dulworth, 64, of Franklin, formerly of Dawsonville, died May 27, 2012.

Born Jan. 7, 1948, in Marion, Ind. to the late Shelby and Estaleene Melton, she lived in the Wells County area for more than 20 years, where she was employed by Franklin Electric for 21 years. Mrs. Dulworth lived in Dawson County for 15 years before moving to Franklin in 2012. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she taught in the preschool.

Event bigger, better

I wanted to thank everyone involved who helped make the third annual Taste of Dawson High at the Dawson County High School on Dec. 10 an even bigger and better event.

Holiday plant care

Flowering and foliage plants make welcome gifts. How long they remain attractive may be directly related to the care they are given. Careful handling is also an important factor that may affect these plants.

Proper watering is critical. Large plants in small containers dry out quickly. Also, the relative humidity indoors tends to be quite low during the heating and air-conditioning seasons. Under these conditions, check plants daily.

‘Let’s Jump’ set for today

Dawson County Parks and Recreation, along with the Dawson County School System will be joining with National Geographic Kids, the National Recreation and Parks Association and Let's Jump to break the record for the most people doing jumping jacks.

In order to break the record, more than 20,000 people worldwide need to participate for one minute during a 24-hour time frame designated by Let's Jump. The time frame has been designated as 8 a.m. Oct. 12.

Students will wash cars, change oil Saturday

Dawson County High School Auto Tech students and Skills USA club members are offering oil changes and car washes from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

The cost is $25. Proceeds help fund the students' various trips and expenses.
