There haven't been many days off for soft-spoken Tiger Tyler Dominy this summer.

Dominy has played more than 30 basketball games this summer in various camps for head coach Thad Burgess.

Not only has Dominy been a work horse in basketball, but he has balanced those with his football obligations as well.

Dominy never seems to get tired, according to his coaches.

Burgess related a story that happened to the upcoming senior at team camp at Birmingham-Southern last week: "Tyler just got finished playing six games that day for us and the coaches asked him to be in a dunk contest. It was 11:30 at night back home, I really didn't think he would be able to have enough energy left to compete. It was unreal, Tyler did some of the most amazing dunks and made it to the finals before losing to this 6'8" guy. Tyler really had the crowd rocking in that gym."

Dominy was selected First Team All-Area by The Times of Gainesville in March.

A rising senior, Dominy was also chosen to the Region 8-AA first team by area coaches last season.

In addition, Dominy was named All-State Honorable Mention.

The Dawson County guard averaged 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game for the AA state quarterfinalists.

Dominy also reached another milestone last season by scoring his 1,000th point midway through the season.

The Tigers finished the season with a 25-7 overall record. Dawson County picked up some memorable wins this season with wins over Elbert County, East Hall, Jefferson, Calhoun and Buford to get to the Elite Eight. The Tigers were eliminated by Jordan, 48-47, in the closing seconds of the game.

The Dawson Community News sat down with Dominy last week, following are some highlights of the interview.

Question: How has your summer gone with basketball?

Answer: It has been going really well. We have played a lot of great teams this summer. We have played a lot of great team ball ourselves. I think we are doing really good.

Q: How have you been playing?

A: I'm getting into the flow of things. I think I'm doing all right.

Q: How does it feel to be a senior now?

A. It's unreal to think about it. It has flown by.

Q. How do you lead your team?

A. We have a solid core of seniors. I think we all seem to take control as vocal leaders. The other players kind of look towards us to lead. We, as seniors, take pride in that we lead the team.

Q: You and your team had a great basketball season last season. What do you expect of this year's team?

A: Same thing if not better.

Q: What are your personal goals?

A: I don't think I have any personal goals right now. The personal goals will come if we do the same thing as last season. We are planning on doing better than last year. I think the personal goals will come as the team thing goes.

Q: How are you balancing football and basketball?

A: Coach Burgess and Coach Lee work with each other on that. It is just fun, non-stop playing sports. I couldn't ask for anything better.

Q: Are you going to get any time off this summer?

A: Maybe a little bit during school. Other than that it's all go right now.
