Future Lady Tigers gather at Rock Creek

Fundamental camp a success

POSTED: June 26, 2012 4:00 p.m.

Forty two young ladies attended a fundamental basketball camp held at the beginning of June at Rock Creek Park.

Coach Tina Brown has been the director of the camp for several years.

"This year was very successful. The girls really learned some basic fundamentals and improved as the week progressed," she said.

Fundamentals such as ball-handling, shooting, dribbling, defense and lay-ups were stressed throughout the week.

The campers were divided into appropriate age groups.

Coaches drilled each camper in a specific drill set up throughout both gyms at the park.

Each camper was encouraged to try each drill and get better as the week went along.

Fun games were also introduced to the campers.

There were competitions for free throws, hot shot and one-on-one. Teams were divided up equally by age group.

On Thursday an awards ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of each future Lady Tiger.

Each participant received a T-shirt.

Special awards were given to several basketball players. The awards were broken up into two groups: older and younger.

Winning awards in the older groups were: Best camper, Kati Brady; one-on-one, Kaylee Sticker; free throws, Tatum Pruitt and hot shot, Brandi Jo Hafermalz.

In the younger group, the best camper went to Maddie Grant; one-on-one, Jenna Lecours; free throws, Kirklyn Porter and hot shot, Isabella Tinsley.

"I think the camp went very well," Brown said. "I really look forward to seeing these young ladies progress next year and hopefully they can take something they learned from here and use it."

This year's staff was made up of Steve Sweat, Brown, Frank Brown, Nichole Green, Jonathan Tinsley and Steven Moates.
