Four people face assault and robbery charges after what authorities described as a botched drug deal June 5 that injured a teenager in northern Dawson County.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Lt. Ray Goodie said Wesley Leroy Carter, 18, Isiah L. Walker, 21, Eric R. Wong, 17, and a juvenile have each been charged with aggravated assault, robbery and misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Walker remains in the Dawson County Detention Center without bail, authorities said.

Carter and Wong were released after posting bond, while the juvenile was taken to the regional youth detention center in Gainesville.

The group reportedly met an 18-year-old male student at Atlanta Sports Academy in Dawsonville with the intent of robbing him.

The student first told officers he set up the meeting to buy a video game unit he found online.

Goodie said further investigation revealed the meeting was a marijuana deal, though no drug transaction took place.

“They later told us they planned to take his money and leave,” Goodie said.

As the vehicle drove off, it dragged the student nearly 30 feet along Gold Creek Parkway.

The student, whose arm had gotten stuck in a seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to North Fulton Medical Center.

Billy Thurmond, Dawson’s director of emergency services, described the teen’s injuries as extensive road rash to his back and legs. He is recovering.

The four suspects were arrested a short time later on Ga. 400.

Goodie said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.

Atlanta Sports Academy is a prep school geared to prepare athletes for major college athletic teams.

Damon Dawson, the academy’s president, said the student is no longer in the school’s athletic program.
