The Dawson County High School Girls Basketball Team held its year end banquet last week. Head Coach Steve Sweat honored his team with the presentation of several awards in the school’s auditorium.
Dawson County completed its last season with a 13-14 record. The Lady Tigers were nipped by East Hall in the Region 8-AA playoffs, 46-43, to end the team’s season.
Mark Ragsdale, assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach presented the JV Coaches Award to Alison Honea.
Sweat awarded plaques to Kim Wallace, best defense, Sheyenne Seabolt, rebounding, Carly Gilreath, best offense, Allie Costley, rebounding, and Morgan Huber, coaches award.
Costley and Huber were unable to attend the banquet because of the soccer playoffs.
“It was a good night,” Sweat said. “It was great to see all our basketball people again. It gives coaches an opportunity to thank all of the parents and players who have worked very hard, behind the scenes, during the season.”
Sweat’s program will lose two seniors following this season due to graduation. The two seniors on this year’s team were Morgan Huber and Kim Wallace.
“We will start getting ready for next year as soon as school is out. Many of the girls have stayed busy by participating in spring sports. The month of June will be a busy time with summer practices and camps. I am looking forward to working with this group. We have some very experienced players, as well as, some good upcoming freshman coming to us next year,” Sweat said.
