Teeth whitening event benefits cause

POSTED: May 2, 2012 4:00 a.m.

Editor's note: In the weeks leading up to Relay for Life, Dawson Community News will feature stories of hope, survivorship and fundraising events intended to increase cancer awareness in the community. The series will also include articles on prevention, early detection and treatment options.

Proceeds from a unique fundraiser next weekend benefit Dawson County Relay for Life.

Discount teeth whitening will be available from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 11 and 12. The cost is $129 for children or adults.

Based in Atlanta, Whitescience is an 11-year-old dental manufacturer that performs more than 5,000 teeth whitening procedures each day.

"Most of our work is at spas or salons," said Randy Harris, president.

The teeth whitening process takes only 45 minutes and there is little or no sensitivity.

"The results are guaranteed and you will experience at least two to eight shades brighter," Harris said.

Whitescience has been featured on NBC and has been used at the Grammy's, Emmy's and the Miss America Pageant.

Harris said he is honored to partner with the Dawson County Sheriff's Relay for Life team to raise funds for cancer initiatives and research.

"We think this is a great service that Mr. Harris is offering to help us raise money for Relay for Life," said sheriff's Lt. Frank Sosebee.

The team also has a bake sale planned in the lobby of the center May 11.

Funds from both events will be added to the $4,800 the team has already collected for Relay for Life.

Dawson County's Relay for Life will be held overnight May 18 at Veterans Memorial Park.

In addition to more than 30 booths offering food and fun for the entire family, Relay for Life teams make laps around the track throughout the night to show their support and celebrate survivorship while raising money for cancer research and programs.
