Team competes at region meet

Jenkins named alternate

The Dawson County High School boys' track team competed in the Region 8-AA championships last week at Jefferson High School.

Several Tiger runners performed well, however none qualified for the State Sectionals at Lamar County High School on April 28.

As a team, Dawson County finished with 5 team points.

North Oconee won the team championship with 117 points, barely outlasting Oglethorpe County who scored 116 team points. Elbert County finished in third with 107 points.

All field event finals were held on Thursday.

The running events qualified on Thursday with the finals on Saturday.

In the 100-meter dash, Chris Sayler, finished in eighth place with a time of 11:59.

Sayler earned 1 team point for the Tigers. Winning the event was Marquice Dye from Elbert County with a time of 11.09.

Sayler barely finished out of the top eight in two events, the long jump and the triple jump.

In both events Sayler came in ninth place. The Tiger had a jump of 19'0.5"in the long jump and a triple jump distance of 38'7.75."

Cory Jenkins vaulted 12'6" to take a fifth place finish in the pole vault.

Jenkins will be an alternate to the State Sectionals, meaning that if one of the top four vaulters is unable to compete then Jenkins will participate in the event.

Jared Scotland of Hart County won the event with a leap of 14 feet.

The season is over for the Tiger track team.
