The Dawson County High School varsity boys soccer team is entering the Region 8-AA playoffs on a roll. The Tigers posted two wins last week. The team defeated Pickens 1-0 before taking down Banks County 3-0.

The team's current record is 9-5 overall and 4-1 in Region 8-AA North.

Dawson County had won four of its last five games going into the April 17 games against Elbert County. Results of that game were not available as of press time.

Head coach Jed Lacey's team also appeared in the Class AA Top 10 for the first time this season.

The Tigers are ranked No. 8 in the latest poll.

Senior night was held last Wednesday when the Tigers hosted Pickens.

The game was a defensive battle that saw both teams fighting for every possession.

Before the varsity boys game Lacey and his coaching staff paid honor to four seniors. Stanton Rogers, Cody Hall, Sam Wentworth and James Carr, as well as their parents, were recognized for their four years of hard work.

Tiger Josh Lund broke the scoreless tie with just 3:08 left in the game on a pass from Sal Mendoza to give Dawson the 1-0 win.

Goalie Brooks Fulford earned his seventh shutout of the season.

On April 13, the team traveled to Banks County for the last region game of the season before the playoffs.

The Tigers pulled out a hard fought 3-0 win over the Leopards to improve the team's region record to 4-1.

Dawson County got on the board with 6:47 left in the first half on a goal by Chris Bywaletz.

The assist was given to Rogers.

The score at the half was 1-0 Dawson.

Lund scored Dawson County's second goal with 28:39 left in the second half on Rogers' second assist of the game.

The goal was Lund's sixth of the season.

Freshman midfielder Josh Sage scored his first high school goal with 8:06 remaining on a beautiful pass from Brandon Lund.

Fulford picked up his eighth shutout of the season in goal.

Dawson County tied with East Hall as the sub-region champions, but because East Hall defeated the Tigers, 1-0, the Vikings were named sub-region champions.

If Dawson County defeated Elbert County yesterday, the team will play this Friday. The opponent, time and location of that game had not been determined as of press time.
