According to Dawson County golf coach Van Samples, the Tigers' golf team is playing better at just the right time. The team has two more matches before taking part in the Region 8-AA tournament at The Traditions course at Chateau Elan on April 23.

Samples' team lost a close match to Gilmer County 172-173 on April 9 at Whitepath Golf Course in Ellijay.

On April 10, the Tigers faced a tough Rabun County team and lost 158-188 at the Wildcats home course, Kingwood Golf Club, in Clayton.

Jake Phillips was low medalist against Rabun. He shot a 41 over the 9-hole event.

Caleb Samples shot the next lowest score with a 46.

Samples was followed by teammates Casey Compton, 48, and John Pulley with a 53.

Dawson bounced back with a 177-193 win over Forsyth Central at Crystal Falls on April 11.

Compton led the boys with a 40, Levi Samples shot 41, Caleb Samples shot 47 and Phillips and Clay Glover both had a 48 over the 9-hole event.

The Tigers played at Union County on Monday. Scores were not available at press time.

The team will travel today to play a match with East Jackson at Double Oaks Golf Course.
