The Dawson County High School boys tennis team had a tough week prior to Spring Break.

The Tigers lost a Region 8A-AA match-up against Banks County on March 27, and then dropped two more non-region matches against North Forsyth and Buford.

All three singles lost to the Leopards before the Tigers could rebound and take both doubles matches.

Spencer Roper lost at number one singles to Jake Schaefer, 6-3, 2-6, 5-7.

At number two singles, Luke Branson dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision to Leopard Paul Coughlin.

Number three singles player Jacob Blalock lost 2-6, 1-6.

The number one doubles pair of Lane Venters and Jeremiah Freedlund won in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Grant Shope and Tyler Griggs won convincingly at number two doubles by a final of 6-1, 6-1.

"Despite the loss, the guys played great," head coach Chris Lundy said. "I looked across the court at one point and we were down in every match, before too long, we were up. The guys stayed in it. Spencer Roper had an excellent match, but came up short."

Dawson County lost 5-0 to teams from North Forsyth and Buford.

Buford is ranked No. 4 in Class AA with an impressive 14-2-1 record.

"It's never a great feeling to lose obviously, but sometimes you have to chalk it up to experience against great opponents. North Forsyth is a solid AAAAA team that lost 5 to zero to a super Buford team the previous week. I thought the guys fought hard. I'm proud of them for demonstrating a healthy balance of disappointment and an understanding that there is value that can come from a loss," Lundy said.

The team returned to action April 10 against Gilmer County. Results were not available as of press time.
