Teams finish in 7th at Amicalola Invitational

Taylor Grindstaff takes a lead over two runners in the 1,600-meter run at the Amicalola Invitational held at Dawson County High School.

The Dawson County track team played host to the Amicalola Invitational meet on March 24 at Tigers Stadium.

The event was a chance for Head Coach Arron Haynes' and his teams to show off the newly renovated track and stadium seating.

Nine teams ran at the meet.

Teams participating included: Dawson County, Blessed Trinity, North Forsyth, Gainesville, West Hall, Chestatee, Forsyth Central, Pinecrest Academy and Jackson County.

Blessed Trinity took the title for both boys and girls.

The girls just got by North Forsyth by scoring 127 points to the Lady Raiders' 117.

Finishing in third place was Gainesville with 105.5 points.

On the boys' side, Blessed Trinity ran away with the meet after scoring 150 points to runner-up North Forsyth with 109 points.

Finishing in third place was Gainesville with 104 points.

Dawson's girls and boys both finished in 7th position.

The Lady Tigers posted several fine performances.

In the discus, Hayden Wilson finished second with a throw of 104'3."

Kimberly Wallace came in third in the long jump with a leap of 15'9" and second in the triple jump with a distance of 32'2."

Fellow triple jumper Gracie Hovan finished in fourth place at 31'9."

Junior Savanna Estes crossed the finish line in sixth place in the 1,600-meter run with teammate Taylor Grindstaff following in 10th.

Other Lady Tigers performing were: Christine Schmid (pole vault), Shelby Whitaker (pole vault), Angelica Santillan (long jump), Wilson (shot put), Tatum Bales (shot put), Cierra Olson (high jump, 100-meters, 200-meters), Ariel Buttram (discus), Caroline Lee (400-meters), Victoria Corcoran (400-meters), Becca Monkus (110-meter high hurdles), Kayla Scandera (110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles), Shelby Sage (200-meters), Hannah Swafford (300-meter intermediate hurdles), Rachel Gloeckner (3,200-meters) and Cassidy Lecours (3,200-meters).

For the boys, Cory Jenkins captured third place in the pole vault with a leap of 12'0."

Tiger Chris Sayler finished in fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 18'7.5."

Sayler also came in third place in the triple jump at 38'3.5."

He also ran in the 100-meters and crossed the finish line with a time of 11.56.

In other events several Tigers had good outings, including: Anthony Underwood (pole vault), Chandler Lewis (long jump, triple jump, 400-meters), Josh Gee (shot put, discus), AJ Thomas (shot put, 100-meters), Jesse Gee (high jump, 400-meters, 200-meters), Lucas Pain (high jump), Cole Smith (discus), Jonathan Erickson (1,600-meters, 800-meters), Jake Hafermalz (1,600-meters, 800-meters), Eric Leonard (110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles), Mason Bearden (110-meter high hurdles), Hunter Martin (200-meters), Coty Greer (300-meter intermediate hurdles), Avery Cowart (3,200-meters), and Jonathon Mulberry (3,200-meters).

The track team will be back in action April 12 with a home meet against East Hall.
