The Dawson County girls tennis team swept Fannin County last week in Dawsonville by a score of 5-0.

At No. 1 singles, Hannah Velcoff easily defeated Cayley Bryant, (6-1, 6-1) during the March 20 match.

Lady Tiger Lauren Morgan also had a quick victory over Lady Rebel Megan Little 6-2, 6-3.

Whitney Glover, at number three singles, pulled out a two-set win, after the second set went to a tie breaker.

Glover won 6-1, 6-7 (11-9) over Lauren Travis from Fannin County.

"This match was really close," said head coach Jamey Bearden. "I feel like both players were equally matched, but Whitney's endurance and persistence paid off."

Both doubles teams pulled off easy victories. Lora Brown and Sarah Anglin won their match 6-2, 6-4.

At number two doubles, Kristi Hyams and Hannah Porter dominated their opponents, 6-1, 6-2.

The Dawson County junior varsity team also played matches against Fannin County.

Junior varsity winners were: Brooke Lewis, Abbigale Brown, Miranda Abe and McKenzie Hamby.

"Overall, the girls did a great job. I'm really proud of this victory. It's so exciting when they all can get a win in a match. Every player is improving and getting stronger each week," Bearden said.

The Lady Tigers will travel to North Forsyth on March 28.

The team will play Buford in an away match March 29.

Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
