Track teams take part in GAC event

The boys and girls track teams ran at the Greater Atlanta Christian School Invitational over the weekend.

The Lady Tigers finished in 10th place as a team at the March 17 event. The team collected 19 points. Host school GACS won the championship with 119 points, followed by Decatur High School with 111.5 total points.

Sixteen teams competed at the event.

Hayden Wilson took first place in the discus with a throw of 101'10" to outdistance Rachel Waldrop from GACS who threw 96'9."

Wilson also finished in 11th place in the shot put with a toss of 27'4.5."

Lady Tiger Kimberly Wallace also had a great meet.

She took fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 15'6.75" and sixth place in the triple jump at 31'2."

Wallace ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay team that crossed the finish line in seventh place with a time of 54.07. Other members of the relay team are Gracie Hovan, Reese Bryant and Jordan Moore.

In the high jump Jordan Moore cleared 4'6" to finish in ninth place.

Rachel Glockner finished in ninth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:27.

Other Lady Tigers placing at the meet were: Tatyana Griffin (long jump), Jordan Moore (100-meters), Cierra Olson (200-meters), Reese Bryant and Caroline Lee (400-meters), Savanna Estes and Taylor Grindstaff (800 and 1,600-meters), Cassidy Lecours, Kayla Schandera and Becca Monkus (100 and 300-meter hurdles).

The boys team also had several notable athletes place in events.

Tiger Zach Wilkins had an outstanding meet. He finished in third place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.62 and fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a great time of 16.15.

In the high jump, Jesse Gee leaped 5'8" to finish in fifth place. Gee also finished in 15th place in the 400-meter run.

Also placing at the meet were: Eric Leonard (300 and 110-meter hurdles), Jackson Morgan (high jump), Chris Sayler (100-meter, long jump, triple jump), A.J. Thomas (100-meter, shot put, 200-meter), Logan Lewis (400-meter, long jump, triple jump), Jake Hafermalz and John Erickson (800 and 1,600-meter), Isaac Rice (shot put), Josh Gee (discus) and Cole Waters (discus).

The 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay team of Zach Wilkins, Jesse Gee, Chris Sayler and Logan Lewis finished seventh with a time of 46.18 in the 4x100 and ninth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:43.80.

As a team, the Tigers tied for 12th place with Holy Innocents with 15 points.

GACS won the team title with 78 points, just beating Blessed Trinity with 73 points and Cross Keys with 72 points.

This Saturday, Dawson County will host its first invitational meet in many years.

Head Coach Arron Haynes' teams will take part in the Dawson County High School Invitational on the school's newly refurbished track.

Field events will begin at 9 a.m.
