The Dawson County High School Tigers varsity baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision to visiting Union County last Tuesday.

Dawson bounced back on Thursday to sweep a doubleheader from the Panthers in Blairsville, 8-2 and 5-4.

Coach Jimmy Pruett's team currently stands at 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 8A-AA play.

On March 13, the Tigers fell behind 7-1 after two innings of play.

The Panthers hit three soft base hits that seemed to just find a hole.

That and a rash of mental mistakes doomed the Tigers.

In the first game on March 15, Logan Burt had an outstanding performance on the mound. Burt pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Tyler Thurmond pitched a complete game to get the win.

Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead going into the fourth inning.

A defensive play changed the momentum. Centerfielder Mitchell Putnam made a diving catch in centerfield that turned into a double play. The play seemed to spark Dawson County.

The fifth inning started on a Keaton Toal line drive down the third baseline. In a blink of an eye the Tigers erupted for five runs to take a 5-2 advantage.

This week the Tigers will host Banks County in a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 5 p.m. Friday.
