Eagles continue on right path

The Riverview Middle School girls soccer team ran its record to 4-0-2 with a tie against Pickens Middle, 0-0, on and a big win over Clear Creek, 5-0, last week.

The March 5 game was a hard fought battle against a very determined Pickens team.

The Lady Eagles were down a fullback, but Isabel Queen stepped in and did an outstanding job, according to head coach John Lundy.

"I thought Mackenzie Rhodes, Ava Walker and Heather Brady did a great job of keeping the ball out of goal. The girls hustled like crazy, but our passing was off and we were unable to punch one in," Lundy said.

On March 8, goals by Makenzie Callas (two goals), Isabella Elliott, Tina Libao and Emily Queen sealed the impressive victory for Riverview.

"Our fullbacks stepped up again and helped keep the shutout. Heather Brady also did an excellent job in her first game as goalie.

"The kids showed a lot of effort and understand the importance of playing all 60 minutes. They are going to have to keep that in mind during our last few tough games," Lundy said.

The Riverview boys picked up a 3-2 win over Pickens before losing 3-0 to Clear Creek last week.

Alan Sanchez led the Eagles on offense with 2 goals against Pickens. Jason Mays also added a goal in the big win.

The Riverview boys are currently 4-1-1 overall this season.

Both teams will travel to Fannin County this Friday for games against the Rebels.
