In the first Region 8-AA match of the season, the Dawson County boy's soccer team demolished Fannin County 8-0 last Tuesday at Tigers Stadium.

Dawson County jumped out to a huge 3-0 lead before halftime with goals by Josh Lund, Sam Wentworth and freshman Brandon Lund.

Brandon Lund finished with a hat trick after scoring two more goals in the second half.

He now has a team-high 8 goals on the year.

Recording assists in the first half were Drew Bishop and Sal Mendoza.

The Tigers added 5 more goals in the second half.

In addition to Lund's 2 goals, Drew Bishop from Sam Wentworth, Sal Mendoza on an assist by Cody Hall, and Chris Bywaletz on an assist from Talal Hamodi, also recorded scores.

"Man, is it nice to have everyone back. We looked the way I thought we would look at the beginning of the season. Having three starters out has really been hard on us. You can not lose Jose Lund (injured), Gunnar Armstrong (basketball) and Jose Mendoza (out for season with an knee injury), and not have it affect you. We got two of the three back tonight and the team just looked different," said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

"We got a chance to move Drew Bishop back to his natural center mid position and we just took off. Gunnar [Armstrong] is a very talented sweep who plays with so much composure. He was the point guard on our Elite Eight basketball team. He is calm and cool and just a winner. Having him back helps us in so many ways," Lacey said.

"Tonight was a confidence builder for us."

The team will travel to Jekyll Island this week to play in the Tournament of Champions.

Dawson will play Lee County on Thursday, followed by Coffee County on Friday and No. 2 Tennessee state finalist Houston High School on Saturday.

"We have some big games down in Jekyll Island this week, playing some great teams. We will find out who we are down there. I am excited about playing some very talented teams in the Tournament of Champions and [it] gives us a chance to get our players back playing in their own positions again," Lacey said.

The boys team is currently 3-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 8-AA play.
